Fiji has officially been confirmed as the host nation for the 2026 MSG Prime Ministers Cup, in what is expected to be the biggest edition of the tournament to date.
The announcement was made this afternoon at the Fiji Sports Council, where the Fiji Football Association formally handed over the MSG Cup Baton to Chief Executive Peter Mazey and his team.
The previous tournament was hosted in Papua New Guinea earlier this year, continuing the rotational hosting tradition among members of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).
According to Fiji FA Chief Executive Mohammed Yusuf, the 2026 edition will be significantly expanded, with additional sports included for the first time. The tournament will also align with the Melanesian Cultural Festival, creating a unique blend of sport and culture.
More than 1,000 participants from across Melanesia are expected to gather in Suva in November 2026, bringing both sporting excitement and a vibrant cultural presence to the capital.
Beyond football, the MSG Prime Ministers Cup is anticipated to provide a major economic boost to Suva, with large delegations, cultural performances, and community engagement activities contributing to a festival-like atmosphere.
Organisers say the event will not only showcase Melanesian sporting talent but also celebrate the shared culture and identity that unites the region.
