Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele has called on all Solomon Islanders to remain vigilant and prioritise safety as Tropical Cyclone Maila continues to affect parts of the country.
In a national address this afternoon, the Prime Minister warned that while the system is beginning to move away, it remains dangerous, particularly for Western, Choiseul, and Isabel Provinces.
He urged the public to follow official advice from the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service, National Disaster Management Office, and provincial authorities.
The Prime Minister strongly advised against unnecessary travel by sea or road and called on fishermen and small vessel operators to remain in safe harbour.
Communities in low-lying coastal areas are urged to remain alert to storm surges and flooding and to move to higher ground where necessary.
Prime Minister Manele also encouraged communities to look after one another, especially vulnerable groups including the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities.
“Solomon Islanders have always demonstrated resilience and unity during times of hardship. This is a time for us to stand together and support one another,” he said.
